Growing up in North Carolina, watching Duck Dynasty was more than just entertainment—it was a masterclass in living a life anchored in faith, family, and hard work. Phil Robertson, the patriarch of the Robertson family, exemplified these values. Alongside his son Willie, he demonstrated that it’s not only possible but profoundly impactful to build a business rooted in Christian principles and familial bonds.

Today, I run A+ Septic Tank Pumping in Willow Spring, NC, alongside my own dad. As I reflect on our journey, I recognize how deeply the example set by Phil and Willie Robertson has influenced the way we approach our business and our relationship.
Phil’s life story is one of resilience and unwavering faith. The Robertson Family built Duck Commander from the ground up, not in pursuit of fame or fortune, but out of a genuine passion for duck hunting and a commitment to their beliefs. When Duck Dynasty became a cultural phenomenon, Phil remained true to himself—humble, direct, and steadfast in his Christian faith. His authenticity resonated with me then, and it continues to inspire me now.
Working with family isn’t always easy, but it’s always rewarding. My dad and I have faced our share of challenges, but by keeping faith at the center and embracing the values exemplified by the Robertsons—integrity, hard work, and putting family first—we’ve built a company we’re proud of.

Last night marked the premiere of Duck Dynasty: The Revival on A&E, a poignant moment as it aired just a week after Phil Robertson’s passing on May 25 at the age of 79, following a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. The premiere paid heartfelt tribute to Phil, with his son Willie sharing cherished memories and the episode concluding with an in-memoriam photo.
The new series continues to follow the Robertson family’s journey, focusing on Willie and Korie Robertson as they navigate the future of Duck Commander and their expanding family. Phil’s absence is deeply felt, but his legacy lives on through the family’s continued commitment to faith, family, and business.
As I continue to work alongside my dad at A+ Septic Tank Pumping, I often think about Phil’s words and actions. His legacy isn’t just about duck calls or television ratings; it’s about demonstrating that faith and family are not just compatible with success—they’re essential to it.
Phil Robertson showed us that a business can thrive without compromising one’s beliefs. In fact, it’s those very beliefs that can be a business’s greatest strength. For that, I am profoundly grateful.
Thank you, Phil, for the wonderful life lessons you shared.
